CPS Error 1687 on xpr5550

I just recently updated my CPS software to version 12.0 Build 642 on windows 10 and I was trying to update firmware. I connected the OEM cable to USB port and I could hear the computer making the sound that it was connected. I went to settings, connected devices and shows "USB Serial Device (COM4)". Shouldn't that say Motorola radio or something like that?

From the software I tried to read the radio but kept getting error #1687 Unable to detect applicable devices(s)

Check to see if compatible programming cable is used. It use to work! Should I have updated the "firmware" first before updating the CPS software? Should I un-install the software and go back to older version 11dot5_build621?

My friend sent me Motorola radio driver and I installed it. It took care of the problem. I am now able to read and write to radio via the programming cable!

I have this issue sometimes in the field , my labtop will not read / write any turbo mobiles! I can go to another radio same model , and everything and it works! I've yet to figure out the cause could be something with the radio. also there is some issues with 12.0 as far as writing it and not being able to TX with the radio. motorola suggests using 11.5 for now again , they said 12.1 will be released in January to fix the issues with 12.0. If you have a MOL account there is a service bulletin out for it.

    1. None that i could think of, new computer, it seemed to work off and on as time went by it began to get worse.

    2. "Error #1687 Unable to detect applicable device(s). Check to see if a compatible cable is used." Cable is attached and works well on my co-workers laptop. Also Devices and Printers shows that the radio is connected and "This device is working properly".

    Method 1. No affect.
Method 2. No affect. Also I uninstalled drivers for each radio, they re-install, show working properly but not working in the CPS.

Turns out there is a firmware update for the radios themselves. Update the radio firmware. No more USB problem. Bad part is that it requires using another computer to do the update first.

    1. Were there any changes made on the computer prior to the issue?

    2. Do you get any error message? If yes, what is the complete and exact error message?

    Method 1:

Test the issue in clean boot mode.

Note: Also, see the section on how to return your computer to a Normal startup mode by following the steps under “Reset the computer to start as usual”.

    Method 2:

I would suggest you to disable and re-enable the USB controllers:

    a. Click Start, and then click Run.

    b. Type devmgmt.msc, and then click OK. Device Manager opens.

    c. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
Note: You might have to scroll down the list to find this item.

    d. Right click the first USB controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers, and then click Uninstall to remove it.

    e. Repeat step 4 for each USB controller that is listed under Universal Serial Bus controllers.

Note: Restart the computer. After the computer starts, Windows will automatically scan for hardware changes and reinstall all the USB controllers that you uninstalled.

No. The APX and MotoTRBO lines use IP over USB emulating ethernet, not serial over USB like the ASTRO25 line, but either way you didn't have to specify a COM port if you were using true USB cables. You're thinking of a USB to serial adapter.

  7. If you've got the 'MOTOTRBO Drivers' folder in the 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Motorola' folder, then go into the 'MOTOTRBO Drivers folder' then into the RNDIS sub folder.

Once there, run DPinst.exe. That will install the drivers that let your computer see the radio as an internet device. When you plug in the radio, you should see Windows ask you if you want to recognize new networks. Choose yes.

Note that sometimes it takes a while for the computer to see the radio when it's first being discovered.. Leave it plugged in for a few minutes.
